2022: Our Year in Review

What a year it has been! We like to build reflection into our lives (whether that’s daily, weekly, monthly or yearly) as a way to celebrate how far we’ve come, and consider the things we’ve learned (sometimes the hard way).

Here are a few of our biggest lessons from 2022:

  1. Rest is a critical part of performance. In the career game, we are often expected to show up every day like it’s the NBA finals - ready to dunk on everyone and perform at peak championship level on any given Monday. But that’s not realistic. Even NBA players don’t play at peak championship levels every day - they train for that all year. Instead of thinking that every day needs to be a slam dunk, find ways that you can ebb and flow with your energy. Got a big presentation or interview? Gametime! Other days? It’s going to be necessary to wrap yourself in a blanket, turn off your phone, and give yourself the space to recuperate. If you need to see the facts, check out this Forbes article on the necessity of rest.

  2. Our best work happens when we’re leading with values & authenticity. In the world of work, it can be hard to show up authentically - but we truly believe that our greatest power lies in showing up as our full selves. In tough moments, we could always rely on our values to guide decision-making. Interested in defining your core values? Check out this article from Psychology Today.

  3. Creating a supportive community is the key to our success. A recent study, summarised in this HBR article, found that our loose connections are actually the most important when it comes to job hunting. The team writes: “We analyzed data from multiple large-scale randomized experiments involving 20 million people to measure how different types of connections impact job mobility. Our results, published recently in Science Magazine, show that your strongest ties — namely your connections to immediate coworkers, close friends, and family — were actually the least helpful for finding new opportunities and securing a job. You’ll have better luck with your weak ties: the more infrequent, arm’s-length relationships with acquaintances.” This rang true for us in 2022 - much of our business growth is thanks to word of mouth, and our amazing clients sharing our work with their friends, colleagues and acquaintances. We truly could not have made it through this year without this community.

Now it’s your turn! What were some of your biggest lessons from 2022? What did you learn? What would it look like to show up authentically in 2023?

Thank you for your support and partnership throughout 2022.

Wishing you peace, rest and joy this holiday season!
